The pressure is on! The United States government, under the Trump administration, significantly escalated its campaign to restrict Venezuela's oil exports. This move involved imposing sanctions on various companies and oil tankers, all suspected of circumventing existing limitations.
This action, announced on December 31, 2025, and updated later that day, targets entities based in both Hong Kong and mainland China. The primary aim? To further choke off Venezuela's access to the global oil market.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took decisive action, adding four companies with ties to Venezuela's oil sector to its specially designated nationals and blocked persons list. These companies include:
- Corniola Ltd. (based in Zhejiang)
- Aries Global Investment Ltd. (based in Hong Kong)
- Krape Myrtle Co
- Winky International Ltd.
But that's not all. OFAC also sanctioned four specific vessels associated with these companies: Della, Nord Star, Rosalind, and Valiant.
And this is the part most people miss... These sanctions are a complex web of financial restrictions designed to make it incredibly difficult for these companies and vessels to conduct business, particularly in U.S. dollars or with U.S. entities. This can have a ripple effect, impacting everything from insurance to port access.
